A short interview...
Before we uploaded this outtake of Rafal Karzcs work we had a chance to talk to him about his art. For those of you interested in learning more about the man behind the paintings. Read our Q&A with this creative, perhaps less talkative, artist.

Q: Have you always wanted to be an artist? Or is it something that just 'happened' to you?
A: t didn't just happen to me. I have always known I wanted to become an artist. Even in primary school I always thought painting. Or architecture.

Q: What drives you as an artist? Do you just 'feel the need to create' or do you have a message you want to share with the world?
A: I wouldn't call myself a social artist. For me it is not about the message but about the process of creation. Having said that, nowadays I find myself more and more engaging in social, or even critical art. So, the message is slowly becoming a more important factor for me.

Q: In the previous century, politics played a major role in Polish art. You're a Polish artist. Do you feel politics is a relevant factor in your art?
A: No. Politics do not play a rol in any of my art, whatsoever.

Q: Polish art seems to be very much in demand nowadays, with artist like Pawel Althamer and Wilhelm Sasnal becoming international superstars. how do you think the Polish art scene benefits form this international attention?
A: I don't have much of an opinion on that. I don't really notice that the art markets that I work in benefit much from it. The great big international art market is actually quite something else than the reality that most artists are faced with.

Q: You like to experiment with different media. What sort of effect does the technology age have on your work? Do you use computers a lot?
A: I work with mixed media. Mizing different media and techniques is just the way I want to create. The way I look at art. But computers aren't very important in my creation process. I prefer physical stuff, mixing ink with water and making something out of that. I use C-prints as well, but they don't play a major role. It's just something in the background.

Is it difficult to be an artist in the era of post-Postmodernism? Is there any room for art in the crowd of icons, designs, and ideologies? The development of new technologies is connected with the development of mass media. Willing or not, we should accept the new aspects of the reality. Contemporary wars basically are medial. Of course, people die not only on the screens of our television sets. On fact, they die not only in wars, but, also, during sporting games and popular street parades. Accidents happen to people because of their lack of imagination. We not only are the witnesses of events, but, also, the participants. Karcz is interested in different aspects of the reality. He concentrates on social issues and doesnt like conventional forms. He likes provocation. The series of his graphic pictures reveals her interest in such subjects as riot and heavenl peace, fun or love/loveless. Keywords: the era of post-Postmodernism . But the artist always says : what does it mean, i dont know, really...
